Supporting working farmers in Warwickshire
5 ways R.A.B.I could help you
R.A.B.I has been around since 1860 and is well established in the farming sector, providing help to those in financial difficulty. However, many people donít realise how much help the charity provides to working farmers and farm workers. In 2015, R.A.B.I gave out £1.9 million in grants, and more than £270k went to working farmers to help them cope with such things as illness, flooding and animal disease. During 2015 we spent over £18,500 supporting beneficiaries in Warwickshire. In 2016 weíve paid out over £11,000 (from January to June). Thatís a 29% increase on the comparable period for last year.
People must have limited savings and be on a low income to qualify for help, but even if we canít give a grant, we may be able to help in other ways or suggest someone else who can. If you know someone who is need of help call our free and confidential helpline on 0808 2819490.
We help in a diverse range of ways and our support is confidential. Here are just a few examples of how we can assist working farmers:
1. Paying domestic utility bills
R.A.B.I. can help working farmers by providing one-off emergency grants to help with domestic bills in times of hardship.
2. Paying for farm staff if youíre sick or injured
Although unable to help with the payment of business bills, R.A.B.I. may be able to pay for relief workers to work on the farm in times of crisis - when the farmer cannot do the work and is unable to pay for someone else to do it.
3. Helping you claim state benefits and tax credits
In 2015, the charity helped people from the farming community obtain £390,590 in benefit payments. Welfare officers visit farmers and farm workers to check they are in receipt of all the state benefits they are entitled to and help with applications on their behalf.
4. Organising free business appraisals
R.A.B.I. can consider putting you in touch with Promar, a consultancy specialising in farm and agri business advice. Following an initial visit, R.A.B.Iís welfare officers can direct people to Promar (or other appropriate consultants) and the first half dayís consultancy is free.
5. Arranging free debt advice
In addition to the help given by R.A.B.I.ís welfare officers, free confidential advice can be provided through referrals to Payplan, who offer valuable assistance on personal finances.
Call R.A.B.I. todayÖ we do more than you think. If you or someone you know works in farming and is need of help, telephone 0808 2819490 - and just ask.

Stuart Brocklehurst, Artist - Environmental Farming Group Picture

Logo Stuart has very kindly allowed the Hubs Environmental Farming Group to use a copy of one of his pieces of work as the logo on the Group paperwork. The piece is called "Spring Skydance - Lapwings".

Stuarts work is inspired by the rhythm, forms and patterns found in the natural environment. From the abstractions of light, shade and cloud patterns on the landscape, to the ripples spreading across a crystal clear river caused by a trout rising to take a fly. He draws and paints images of places he has a strong affinity with, many through association having lived and worked there. Especially the dramatic uplands of the North of England and the landscapes and coastline of West Wales.
