2019 Nuffield Scholar Ed Barnston is the owner and manager at Barnston Estate in Cheshire and was the 2019 Bledisloe Gold Medal Award Winner for Landowners. Ed’s Nuffield topic was ‘Estate Management – Benchmarking Success’.  The Barnston Estate comprises 1,800 acres with multiple farms, forestry operations, renewable energy interests, a business park, residential lets and land development which provides local housing and employment for 250 people. The estate has a natural burial ground and a 60-point rotary diary parlour is one of the most technologically advanced and efficient in the country.

Andrew Williamson

Andrew Williamson’s Nuffield study topic was ‘Precision Agriculture: How to realise the full potential’.   He travelled to Canada, USA, Mexico, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and Brazil in 2013.  Andrew farms near Bridgnorth in south Shropshire, where he is the managing partner of the family farming partnership. He returned home to join the partnership in 1999 after university and working on farms in Australia, New Zealand and the USA. He farms 900 acres of combinable crops, wheat, oilseed rape, oats, barley and beans. The business uses the precision farming techniques he learnt about on his Nuffield travels and Andrew is also beginning the journey into conservation agriculture.   Andrew is also on the NFU combinable Crops Board

Refreshments and cakes will be served at 7.00am prior to the start of the presentations.  Please book your place with Jane on info@ruralhub.org.uk
