Wednesday 17 June 2020
1.00pm – 2.00pm
To be conducted online via Zoom

The meeting has been organised by the Arden Farm Wildlife Network.

The speaker will be Kelly Jowett who is a PhD student at Rothamsted, researching pest-eating ground beetles.  She is hoping to discover which farm management practices encourage ground beetle species and so in turn could be invaluable for pest control in crop areas. Studies have shown that ground beetles eat a range of important crop pests and can control the populations of livestock pests too.  They also support biodiverse habitats and provide food for farmland birds.

During our lunchtime talk Kelly will run through the research so far, different types of beetles, what they like to feed on and how to monitor their numbers.  As part of her PhD she is also seeking the opinions of farmers on the benefits of ground beetles in crop protection.  There will be plenty of time for any questions you have.

If you wish to join the meeting please contact our Co-ordinator Jane Hampson who will then send you the Zoom meeting link and ID.

Update on all future Rural Hub events

Further to the Government’s advice on the evening of 16 March 2020 to avoid all non-essential social contact to limit the spread of coronavirus the Directors of the Warwickshire Rural Hub decided to cancel all scheduled events.  Moving forwards, a decision on the organisation of any future events will be taken once government regulations allow meetings of people from different households to take place.
