06 Jul 2026 CS Higher Tier is now open to expressions of interest

Up until July 2026, the CS Higher Tier has operated on an invitation-only basis. On 2 July, the Environment Secretary announced that from summer 2026, farmers and land managers will be able to submit an expression of interest for the scheme. Defra is also introducing simpler, single-focus agreements so applicants can focus on the environmental priorities that matter most on their land.  

Backed by at least £50 million pounds for new agreements, this will help support targeted improvements where they can make the biggest difference. Read more on this Defra blog post
