29 Oct 2026 Defra launch consultation on phasing out of CO2 stunning of pigs

Defra is consulting on a proposal to phase out carbon dioxide stunning of pigs.

They are asking for views on a proposal to ban the use of carbon dioxide for stunning of pigs in slaughterhouses and knackers yards. They are also asking for views on the transition period before any proposed ban might come into force and want to gather more information on the impacts on industry.
